Special Educational Needs

Everyone at Ratton is committed to providing the opportunities to enable any child with Special Educational Needs or Disability (SEND) to be fully included in all aspects of school life.

We have high expectations of our SEND students, setting challenging learning targets and working together with students, parents and other agencies to reach these targets and to celebrate their successes. We work with those involved in supporting students with SEND to ensure maximum achievement in attainment and progress in order to find learning a positive experience.

We have a dedicated team of staff who share Ratton’s vision and virtues; that we are a learning community where everyone has a valuable and unique contribution to make. We work hard to ensure that our SEND students are able to contribute to all aspects of school life, to ensure they are included in curricular and extra-curricular activities, and that any possible barriers to participation are removed.

SEND Reforms

The new SEND reforms became statutory from September 2014. These reforms remove the SEND stages of School Action and School Action Plus to be replaced with a single category of SEND need referred to as ‘Complex Additional Needs’. Education, Health and Care plans will also replace future Statements. As a result of the new funding measures schools and local authorities are required to produce a Local Offer outlining the provisions available within their setting for students identified as requiring additional support to make progress.

Please see the SEND policy and how this is being implemented.
