Remote education provision: information for parents

During a period of school closure students will continue to follow their normal school timetables and curriculum . Teachers will arrange for all lessons (apart from core PE) to be delivered via Microsoft teams. Students should look out for the invites to lessons on their TEAMS calendar/emails and click Accept. Lessons will be between 40-45 minutes long.

What should my child expect from immediate remote education in the first day or two of pupils being sent home?

We teach the same curriculum remotely as we do in school wherever possible and appropriate. However, we have needed to make some adaptations in some subjects. For example, we have removed Core PE lessons to reduce screen time and allow time for activity.

If a teacher is unwell or unable to teach their lessons for any other reason, then Students will not receive an invitation for that lesson and should revert to the online work packs and complete the tasks independently. They are available here.

How long can I expect work set by the school to take my child each day?

We are running a normal school day, however we have reduced lesson time from one hour to 45 minutes

Lesson 1        9:05 – 9:50

Lesson 2        10:00 – 10:45

Lesson 3        11:20 – 12:05

Lesson 4        12:20 – 1:05

Lesson 5        1:45 – 2:30

 

How will my child access any online remote education you are providing?

We recognise that some pupils may not have suitable online access at home. if a student is unable to access live lessons please email

How will my child be taught remotely?

Live teaching (online lessons) using Microsoft Teams or student work packs if their teacher is unable to deliver the lesson.

 

ENGAGEMENT AND FEEDBACK

What are your expectations for my child’s engagement and the support that we as parents and carers should provide at home?   

All students are expected to attend their Live lessons every school day. The lessons are hosted via TEAMS and covers all subject apart from Core PE. Students should attend each hourly lesson slot on their timetable. Each lesson will include 45 minutes of teacher input and direction. 

If a teacher is unable to deliver their Live lessons- the lessons will not appear on the TEAMS calendar. The student should then refer to the online work packs and complete the tasks there.  

How will you check whether my child is engaging with their work and how will I be informed if there are concerns?   

Teachers take a register every lesson and use various ways to interact with the students. The teacher monitors the participation and will award the student with an engagement grade at the end of the term. Attending the lessons alone is not enough, answering questioning and completing the tasks shows the teacher that the student is actively involved in the learning.  

How will you assess my child’s work and progress?   

Feedback can take many forms and may not always mean extensive written comments for individual children. For example, whole-class feedback, diagnostic tests or quizzes marked automatically via digital platforms are also valid and effective methods, amongst many others. Verbal feedback is also given throughout the lesson. Our approach to feeding back on pupil work is as follows:   

All subjects use a range of strategies within the lesson to give students meaningful feedback.  

Assessments and short questions will be set using Assignments on TEAMS. This work will be viewed by teachers and written feedback will be given to each student with targets for development.  

Remote education for self-isolating pupils   

Students who are self-isolating at present will be able to access remote learning through Teams. When school is open, students will be able to access remote learning through resources which are regularly updated on the school website.  

If my child is not in school because they are self-isolating, how will their remote education differ from the approaches described above?    

If the student remains well, they will attend the Live lessons, if they are unwell but would like to still do some work in their own time, they are to go to the relevant work pack that is online.
