Year 7 Careers Day - “Roll up it’s the Game of Life”!

On Tuesday 6th July our entire Year group of Year 7 students took part in a specially designed event called the Game of Life.
This fun and educational event, which is part of Ratton’s extensive Careers programme, took place in the school hall. With help from our fantastic group of Year 10 student leaders, the Year 7s (working in small groups), chose a career path: either straight into work or following the University route.
They then worked their way through ‘Life’, which included buying a house, going on holiday, buying a first car, buying a pet, getting married and having a baby!
The students learned examples of how much all these things would cost to buy according to the type of house/car/holiday and what a job promotion would mean in terms of a salary increase.
The event got the students thinking about the advantages and disadvantages of leaving school and going straight into a job, compared to the advantages and disadvantages of going to University and studying a degree.
Great work year 7 and well done to the Careers team for their creativity and hard work.
