JUNE NEWS : TENNIS COACHING AT RATTON

This term we have further developed links with Hampden Park Tennis Club and Richard Allingham, who works for Bedes and is the lead coach at Hampden Park, to come into Ratton to deliver lessons to selected groups in Years 7, 8 & 9. Over 100 students have received coaching from Richard over the past few weeks, which they have all thoroughly enjoyed and, also, found hugely useful in terms of their coaching skills and abilities. Richard also led a very successful staff CPD to further develop tennis coaching in school by introducing new drills and approaches to teaching tennis. Again, something we all found hugely useful and interesting. Richard works very closely with the Lawn Tennis Association and coaches top class national players, as well as teams who are nationally ranked. We have felt hugely lucky to have Richard attend our school and learn from him, a huge thank you to Richard for taking the time to attend our school and spend time with both students and staff. The students have commented on how much they have enjoyed the sessions with Richard and we have noticed a marked improvement in their performance as a result. At the end of the lessons a group of our Year 9 girls commented:- “He makes it really fun and different” “I can now get a rally of 5 and couldn’t hit the ball before!” “I’ve never been able to serve before and now I can get it over the net and in the box!” Again, a big thank you to Richard for coming in to support the love of tennis at Ratton and further encouraging our students within this area. As we all know, tennis is a huge part of Eastbourne’s history, with national and international hosted events, we feel hugely proud of our school for their continued contribution towards the exposure and love for this fine sport. If students would like to play more tennis they can come along to the after school tennis clubs at Ratton on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week. Richard also runs many coaching sessions down at the Hampden Park Club, which are open to all age groups and abilities. Flyer for this coaching session with further details will be shared soon. WATCH THIS SPACE! Richard has also been hugely supportive in the training of our school Sports Leaders, who recently delivered a tennis festival to 12 Primary schools (see previous post). The sports Leaders are also due to go into Motcombe Infant School to deliver a Primary tennis enrichment opportunity to the Year 2 students this coming Tuesday, 21st June. WATCH THIS SPACE FOR FURTHER UPDATES. As ever, huge thanks to our local community and their support, including local sports centres and professionals within their field and, also, to our Sport Leaders and students for their continued enthusiasm and efforts. We are proud of you all, keep up the fantastic work. #TeamRatton #SportsLeaders #Tennis #Coaching #TennisClub #LocalBusinessSupport #Eastbourne #StudentAppreciation #SportsLeaders #PROUD
